CATEGORIES
There are four membership categories at PRTA: Voting Member, Junior Chapter Member, Affiliate Member and Associate Member. Both Affiliate Members and Associate Members enjoy every membership benefit, but they don’t have a right to vote, nor to occupy elective positions in the Alliance. No entity or subsidiary of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, its municipalities, or the U.S. government can become a PRTA member.
Membership participation must comply with the Alliance’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, as well as with the rules and regulations adopted by the Board of Directors.
VOTING MEMBER
This category is reserved for operating companies. To qualify as Voting Member, it must:
- Be registered as a certified business before the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Bureau (NET, by its Spanish acronym), CMRS, ETC, cable TV or interconnected VoIP, or possess an FCC-spectrum license, or be a tenant of an FCC-approved spectrum, or a better bidder for a license at the closing of any FCC-spectrum auction, which provides or plans to provide a bidirectional wireless service or owns participation in a submarine cable.
- Have presence or any relationship with the Puerto Rico market.
JUNIOR CHAPTER MEMBER
This category is reserved for operating companies. To qualify as Junior Member, it must:
- Be registered as a certified business before the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Bureau (NET, by its Spanish acronym), CMRS, ETC, cable TV or interconnected VoIP, or possess an FCC-spectrum license, or be a tenant of an FCC-approved spectrum, or a better bidder for a license at the closing of any FCC-spectrum auction, which provides or plans to provide a bidirectional wireless service or owns participation in a submarine cable.
- Have presence or any relationship with the Puerto Rico market.
- Have an annual income below $1,000,000.00.
The Junior Chapter is entitled to a chapter representative vote, which will be exercised by a member elected by chapter participants.
AFFILIATE MEMBER
The Affiliate Member category is comprised by companies that operate or have an interest in a service provider but don’t qualify as Voting Member, which resell services, or which are a limited member or risk capital firm with an interest in a Voting Member, or any other entity interested in being part of the Alliance and does not qualify in another category.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER
The Associate Member category includes companies that provide goods or services to the telecommunications and cable television industry, which serve Puerto Rico but do not qualify as Voting Member or Affiliate Member.
